THE MOBILE RETREAT
The mobile retreat is inspired by the work of Alexander Calder. The shape, motion, color, and feeling of his mobiles translate in to this floating structure. It acts as a hub for studying the environment while living out in the ocean. The islands come together like a constellation housing research flex space, communal meeting space, above private residential space, and surrounding agricultural islands for sustenance. The mobile retreat is a destination for environmentalists, architects, engineers, and more. A stay at the mobile retreat allows one to escape the linear daily path to pursue research or other betterment of the planet.
By creating a different more circular lifestyle, the goal for the floating structure is to be reliant on wind for energy, while the below coral reefs are also reliant on the structure for regrowth support. Calder's work is influenced by the natural movement of air and the environment. My interpretation of his work is meant to influence and be influenced by the environment.
The final deliverable was a 5 minute video presentation shown in a cinema: click here to watch
